THIS THURSDAY AT 8PM - LECTURE: Professor NIGEL BIGGAR: What's Wrong with Rights?

G Social

G Social

G Social is situated on the southern edge of the Radley campus, behind the stunning Chapel and 18th Century Mansion and conveniently next to the Medical Centre. It is surrounded by lovely scenic grounds and is fortunate in having a large ‘patch’ on which the boys play football, croquet and paddle tennis.

The Social was fully refurbished in the summer of 2014 and benefits from a large kitchen area which can cater for all 68 boys at once. Thus it is a focal point of the boarding house. ‘Cocoa’ evenings are fun and good natured where boys of all ages, as well as staff, interrelate.

Chess is a particular favourite of the boys, with both table tennis and pool being played competitively in the Games Room. The Social approaches all the inter-Social competitions with enthusiasm, determination and passion, but never forgets that humility is a virtue. The range of talent within Social always means the boys give a good account of themselves.

G Social prides itself on being a united, vibrant and enjoyable place in which to live and we believe we add to the spirit of Radley College.

Graham King
Geography Teacher, G Social Tutor
I have been Tutor of G Social since 2016. I grew up in South Africa and the fact that I have so many fond memories of being at a boy’s boarding school myself probably explains my love for Radley and the all-round education it provides. After school I studied geography at Stellenbosch University and then spent 5 years teaching in Cape Town before moving to the UK in 2003 to take up a post at Bedford school. Having been raised in South Africa, playing sport has played an important part of my life for as long as I can remember and I have always been keen to try my hand at most sports including hockey, cricket, golf, squash, tennis, and distance running. In addition to teaching geography, coaching hockey and cricket, and refereeing rugby matches have been a source of great pleasure throughout my time at Radley. One of the many highlights of my time at Radley so far has also been the experience of running the hockey club since my arrival in 2006. It is a great privilege to be given the responsibility of running such a successful social where the boys are able to maximise their potential in a happy and supportive environment. The pride the boys have in their social is obvious for all to see and I look forward to maintaining the high standards which make G such a special place.

Lee Ryan
Geography Teacher, G Social Sub-Tutor
After graduating from Cambridge University with a degree in Geography, I worked in TV for 10 years as a news producer for ITV and BT Sport, covering such big events as the 2014 World Cup, the Scottish Referendum, the Tour De France and the Royal Wedding. Upon leaving TV production I studied for a PGCE at St Hugh's College, Oxford University, and joined the Geography department at Radley shortly after. In 2018 I was pleased to join the G Social team as the resident sub tutor. When not pacing the hallowed halls of the Humanities 'doughnut', I spend my time at Radley pacing the touchline of the football pitches trying valiantly to get the Junior Colts football team to play 'Total Football'. Beyond Radley I enjoy travelling to unusual bits of the world, climbing mountains and watching Scandi crime dramas whilst enjoying a craft beer.

G Social Pastoral Housemistress
I joined the G Social team at the start of Michaelmas term 2019. I have worked in senior boarding schools since 1999 and I thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere of the boarding house and the variety each day brings. Being a PHM is a rewarding and fulfilling role - watching the boys grow in all areas of school life as they move through the year groups. I love baking, gardening, travel and watching sport.
