A Social

A Social

Located adjacent to the College shop and with fine views across the pitches, A Social is extremely lucky to have its own astro turf, which is very popular.

Members of A Social are not only able to look out on the unbeatable view of Radley’s perfectly maintained pitches, but also to immerse themselves in more philosophical thoughts in the building where Sir Andrew Motion’s love of poetry was first kindled.

The atmosphere around the Social and interaction between all year groups provides a welcoming and comfortable place to spend five years and, whether enjoying a burger from the barbecue outside on Saturdays in the summer or simply relaxing with a mug of hot chocolate in Cocoa in the winter months, it is a great place to unwind after a long day.

A Social Tutor
Having completed my degree at Edinburgh and PGCE at Christ Church Canterbury I started teaching as Head of Geography in an Oxford Prep School. It soon became clear to me that I wanted to work in a Senior School and I started as A Social Resident Sub-Tutor in 2013. My subjects, Geography and Geology, came naturally having been brought up in the Lake District and I am lucky to be able to mix my love of teaching with my passion for the outdoors – co-leading field trips around the country and abroad. I have always enjoyed all sports and have had some excellent seasons with Hockey, Rugby and Cricket teams across the year groups. Having spent three years on the Pastoral committee, I took over as Tutor of A Social in September 2020 with my wife Kate, and my three children, Oscar, Theo and Lily.

A Social Sub-Tutor, Maths Teacher
After completing both my undergraduate master's and PGCSE at the University of Exeter I spent seven happy years teaching at King’s College, Taunton, before joining the Radley College community in 2018. Having lived in a boarding house before I was delighted to become part of the ‘A Team’ in January 2020. Outside of the classroom I am a keen musician; singing and playing a handful of instruments, across an eclectic mixture of genres. I also enjoy coaching senior rugby in the Michaelmas Term and assisting in the running of Senior social tennis in the Summer term. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, attending live performances (theatre, music or sport), travel, and participating in pub quizzes.

A Social Pastoral Housemistress
I joined Radley College and A Social in the Lent term of 2013. I had previously worked as a Personal Trainer and fitness instructor in Bristol. I run strength and conditioning classes for boys in A Social, as well as Colts Rugby at School. I love the special pastoral relationship I have with the boys as a PHM, it is a unique and privileged position. I have two grown up children called Lauren and Tom.
