K Social

K Social

At K Social we take pride in offering boys a supportive and engaging environment where they can thrive and flourish.

A strong emphasis is placed on mutual respect and kindness, developing good relationships and
ensuring boys are able to realise their potential by making the most of the huge opportunities available at Radley, whether that be academically, in sport, music, drama and the creative arts. K Social boys are encouraged to feel at home in a friendly but disciplined atmosphere and to give their best in all areas, whatever their particular talents.

As a relatively new Social (opened in 2008), the purpose-built building incorporates the best features of existing Socials. We are particularly proud of having a stunning south-facing view of Chestnut Avenue, as well as access to playing fields and Astros just outside our back door! Close to academic departments, sports facilities, as well as Music and Drama, but a minute or two away from the centre of the college, K Social is perfectly positioned for boys to easily navigate their way around the school’s abundant facilities.

We are very proud of all our boys and the vibrancy that their individual talents bring to our community spirit. Recent K Social successes have included: two Sewell scholars, the Inter Social Ergo (Rowing) and Cricket Cups, the Peter Cook Monologue (Acting) Cup, the Milligan (Musical Theatre) Cup, scholarships for Academic, Music, Sport & Art, the Spens Trophy (General Knowledge), medals at the National Schools’ Regatta, Bigside representation in Rugby, Hockey, Football and Cricket, the Privates Merit (CCF) Cup and places at top Russell Group Universities, such as Oxford and Yale.

Classics Teacher, Tutor of K Social
I have been at Radley since 2014, firstly as Resident Sub-Tutor of E Social, whilst also a Shell Form Master, then becoming Tutor of K Social in September 2018. Having read Classics at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, I spent seven years in investment banking before choosing a vocation in teaching. As a former boarding school pupil myself, it was a natural decision to pursue my teaching career in the boarding sector. Following two terms at Wanganui Collegiate School in New Zealand and two years at Canford School, I came to Radley in 2014. The role of House Master at K Social is a great privilege – I love the fact that it gives me the opportunity to continue teaching my passion of Classics, at the same time to lead the pastoral care and well-being of the boys, not least as the enthusiastic coach of Junior Colts Rugby and Midgets Hockey. I have also overseen Catholic boys at the College, been Master in Charge of Charities, as well as involved in DofE, Community Partnerships and the stock investor society. In all of these roles, I am endlessly amazed at how the Radley community comes together to support the boys in their development. My wife Rosie, an English teacher, writer and keen artist, recently taught at St Edward’s, Oxford and we have two young daughters, Hebe & Peggy.

K Social Sub-Tutor, Head of Removes, Design Engineering Teacher
After graduating from Loughborough University, I enjoyed 7 years at Cheltenham College before joining Radley in 2016, in the Design Engineering Dept and as Resident Sub-Tutor of K Social. I live in K Social along with my fiancée Olivia, who works for Diageo and our cockerpoo puppy Basil. Outside of the workshop, I am a keen sports man and coach JC1 rugby and Colts 1 cricket. Alongside this, I am also the Head of Removes. This role essentially involves keeping a close eye out for the Remove year group, working with the Tutors, ensuring we get the most, and best out of them in all areas of Radley life. In my spare time, I enjoy getting creative in the kitchen, honing my culinary skills and playing all manor of sports from golf to football to real tennis.
